Badr Hari faces attempted manslaughter charge

Badr Hari is facing a possible attempted manslaughter charge following an appearance in front of an Amsterdam magistrate today.

He is alleged to have taken part in an assault on a reveller at a rave in Amsterdam Arena earlier this month, before going on holiday with his girlfriend Estelle Gullit, estranged wife of the Dutch footballing icon Ruud Gullit.

Having returned from holiday this week Hari handed himself in to police Wednesday night and was arrested on doing so. He has been detained in custody since then and today his remand was extended by the magistrates, who gave police permission to hold him for two weeks.

The man attacked at the rave was set upon by three persons. Hari is said to have engaged last and inflicted the most grievous injury, a broken ankle caused by “full force” stamping on the leg. The victim, a millionaire website entrepreneur, is said by multiple sources to have identified Hari as one of his attackers.

Also this week, another man came forward claiming to have been assaulted by Hari last year. The man, who owns Amsterdam nightclub Air, says he suffered a broken jaw and lost teeth after being kicked in the head by Hari.

He did not press charges at the time after Hari allegedly promised never to attend the club again, but he was motivated to come forward after the latest allegations against the former K-1 champion. Hari is being charged with assault in relation to the arena incident but faces a possible charge of attempted manslaughter relating to the nightclub owner.

A spokesperson for the director of public prosecutions office has confirmed that Estelle Gullit, who was with Hari at the Amsterdam Arena event, will be asked for a statement, as will others who were present in the VIP booth when the attack took place.
